POSITION PURPOSE:
A Swim Lesson Instructor should be a strong leader, attentive, organized and have strong communication skills. Swim Lesson Instructor responsibilities include but not limited to: teaching all skill levels, communication with class participants, and coordinating make-up classes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager and in accordance with Country Day mission and values, the Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons according to the Country Day program standards
- Create a positive learning environment through personal enthusiasm
- Be safety-conscious, maintain order and enforce rules during lessons to ensure swimmer safety
- Keep accurate records of attendance and skills achieved by each student, each session
- Provide each student with written records of progress
- Use swim aids effectively to maximize each individual’s practice time
- Utilize written lesson plans for each lesson to make the most efficient use of class time
- Participate in all staff meetings and in-service training
- Conduct program evaluations
- Carries out additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Previous teaching experience is not required, but must enjoy working with children and have a positive, fun personality
- Must present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Position requires walking, squatting, pushing (up to 50 lbs), pulling (up to 50 lbs), use of sight and vocal projection, standing, carrying (up to 50lbs), and lifting (up to 50 lbs)
- No competitive swim team experience needed
Requirements:
- Must successfully complete instructor training
- Must successfully complete, and maintain certifications as deemed necessary by the aquatics manager.
- Must successfully complete at least 4 hours teaching under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Manager or an experienced instructor before leading a class independently
